Which 70cc Cyl kit fits the Euro 4 Typhoon / SRMT ?

by bradmt / Friday, 14 January 2022 / Published in Scooter Tuning

If you own a Piaggio Typhoon 50 or Aprilia SRMT 50 built from Jan 2018, you own a Euro 4 model. What’s the difference? – To meet more strict European emissions standards there are a couple additional systems on this bike which need to be taken into account when installing performance parts.

A few dead give aways for identifying the E4:

  • Grey frame, (the e2 is black)
  • 2x exhaust vapour recovery system boxes above the exhaust (e2 has x1)
  • Different shape airbox cover
  • Digital dash
  • ‘BYBRE’ front brake caliper

When it comes to installing a 70cc cylinder kit, it is very important that the factory head be used! The reason for this is the heat sensor present in the factory head, the data from which is fed to the ECU/CDI which is able to advance or retard the ignition timing based on this information. Advanced timing burns more fuel as well as making more power, but at the cost of producing more heat.

At cold operating temperatures the ECU/CDI advances the timing. As the heat in the engine increases the sensor on the head provides this information to the ECU/CDI, which then retards the timing to a more standard level to stop the engine from overheating. If the sensor is removed, the ECU/CDI will run at maximum advance timing constantly which often results in piston seizure.

The Malossi 316915 cylinder kit is designed to run with the factory head, allowing you to keep the factory heat sensor. A special head gasket is included in this kit, to allow the running of the factory head safely.

As the 316915 (headless Sport), 316926 (Sport) and 318463 (MHR Rep kit) share the same piston and cylinder dimensions, any of these kits can be installed on a Euro 4 model provided they are installed with the factory head and special head gasket from the 316915 kit – which can be purchased separately (Gasket kit part #116923 or click HERE to view)

Our reccommendation:

If you’re looking for a basic 70cc build on your Euro 4 Typhoon 50 or SRMT 50, go for:

  • Malossi Sport (Headless) 70cc Cylinder Kit (316915)
  • Yasuni Z Performance Exhaust (YAS418)
  • Polini 4.5 – 6g 19×15.5 Roller Tuning Kit (P242422)
  • Polini Clutch Spring Set to suit factory clutch (P245030)
  • 6mm 75-98 Jet Kit to suit Dellorto PHVA (2599111)

If you’re looking for more power, go for :

  • Malossi MHR Replica 70cc Cylinder Kit (318463)
  • Malossi Gasket Kit to suit factory head (116923)
  • Yasuni R Performance Exhaust (YAS420)
  • Polini 4.5 – 6g Roller Tuning Kit (P242422)
  • Polini Clutch Spring Set to suit factory clutch (P245030)
  • 6mm 75-98 Jet Kit to suit Dellorto PHVA (2599111)
